Summer is here and for the 10th year in a row, video professionals, super-star influencers, super-fans, and more all descended on Anaheim, CA for the annual VidCon conference.
VideoAmigo and Touchstorm, our in-house YouTube Specialty Agency, were among those who spent last week attending both Industry and Creator Tracks hearing from all sorts of brands, platforms, creators, and celebrities on what is new and next when it comes to video.
Now that the conference has come to a close, let’s take a look at some highlights and announcements that were made.

The Creator Track sessions were a combination of video production techniques, monetization strategies, contract/legal education, and platform announcements.
Major Platform Announcement: Instagram “Creator Accounts” and “Creator Studio.”
- “Creator Accounts” now allow for “an enhanced inbox, flexible profile controls, and insights to help you grow.” – Instagram
- The “Creator Studio” allows you to view insights and schedule content to IG and IGTV.
Did we mention you can now do all of this from your desktop?!
Industry Track & YouTube Announcements
The Industry Track of VidCon 2019 was the business side of the video world, chock full of panel sessions and case studies that we’ll dive into in upcoming posts. (So if you haven’t already, be sure to click the teal subscribe button on this page, so you won’t miss those posts.)
To whet your appetite, here is a small menu of some of YouTube’s big announcements:
- YouTube Learning Playlists
- YouTube Learning Funds
- Super Chat
- Super Stickers
- Advanced Merch
- Channel Membership
While most of YouTube’s announcements focused on new revenue streams designed to boost the money being made by creators on the platform, the “Learning” features show an increase in YouTube’s investment into informational content.
- Learning Playlists will allow uninterrupted (suggested video free) playlists on particular topics.
- Learning funds will help creators who are experts to fund their next wave of educational content through crowdsourcing similar to Kickstarter.
What does all of this mean for YouTubers and fans? Stay tuned for further updates.
